The Blind Leading the Blind

Fall is my favorite time of year. It’s when the weather finally cools off enough to enjoy sitting in my porch swing. The leaves change into beautiful colors and make a wonderful crunch under my feet when I stomp to the mailbox. Of course, fall also means that football season is in full swing.

Even though I know very little about the game of football, I do enjoy watching it. I think all of the movement and color holds my attention. What was I talking about? Anyway, Saturday Luke and I watched football together. I explained to him that the team with the highest number of points wins. He was very excited to see the numbers grow larger as each team scored.

“Which team do we wike?” he asked.
Honestly, I had no particular interest in either side, so I just picked the team with the fewest points.
“Why aren’t we winning?” he asked.
“Well, we don’t always win,” I told him.
“Then we should kill them,” he said.
“No, silly. It isn’t that big of a deal. The guys on the field are kids too, just bigger. They play football on Saturday, but the rest of the week they go to school just like you do. They’re still learning so we shouldn’t get angry when they don’t win. Got it?”
“So we are not going to kill them?”
“I’m afraid not.”
